Why there is no figure here
Because no honest figure comes out of four fields. The price of custom furniture is made of the area of board, the number of parts inside, the fronts and the hardware — and two wardrobes of the same width differ by a factor of two or three depending on what is inside them and how high they go.
A calculator that shows a figure anyway is showing an average of other people's orders. Yours will not land on that average, and the figure will have to be revised in the very first conversation — and a revised price looks like a trick, even when it is only a clarification.
So we did it differently: the calculator builds a brief, and we name the figure after the measuring visit, from the drawing, once the running metres, the fronts and the interior are visible. Before the order, not after the fitting.
What moves the figure most
Four things that make two similar orders cost differently.
Area, not length
Width × height decides. A 2 m wardrobe up to a 2.9 m ceiling is more board, plus one more level of shelves, than a 2.5 m one stopping at 2.2 m.
Interior
A rail and shelves are the baseline. Drawers on runners, mesh baskets, a trouser rack, lighting — each is a separate cost, and this is where the figure grows fastest.
Fronts
Laminated board is cheaper and comes in more decors; MDF is needed for routing, a radius or an even colour with no visible edge. Mirror and glass cost more than a plain leaf, and weigh more.
Hardware
Hinges, runners, the sliding door system. The dearest of the things you never see, and the reason furniture either lasts for years or starts to catch within one.
What happens after you send the brief
We call and clarify
A few questions the fields do not cover: where exactly the furniture goes, what services run nearby, whether the renovation is finished.
We come and measure
On finished walls, at three heights, recording every deviation, socket and pipe. Recesses are rarely rectangular.
We draw it
The furniture for your room — with the dimensions, the interior and the materials that will actually go into the work.
We name the figure
From the drawing. If something in it is unnecessary we take it out before the order, and the figure changes with the drawing.
The short answers
Why a calculator if it shows no price?
So that the order does not start from nothing. Once we can see the type of furniture, the dimensions and the material level, the first conversation is shorter and the measuring visit can be booked straight away. Without it, the whole first call goes on those same four questions.
Does sending the brief commit me to anything?
No. A brief is a description of what you want, not an order. You can change your mind at any step, including after you hear the figure.
When will the calculator start showing a figure?
When there is a range we are prepared to stand behind. Putting a number up sooner is technically trivial — the problem is that it would have to be taken back, and that is worse than having no number.
