How much does a custom sliding wardrobe cost

The honest answer: the price of a custom wardrobe cannot be named before the measuring visit, and any site that names one revises it later. What you can understand right now is what the figure is made of — five things, four of which you decide yourself.

Why a "price per metre" means nothing

Two wardrobes of the same width can differ in price by a factor of two or three. One is free-standing, two laminated doors, a rail and three shelves. The other is built in to a 2.9 m ceiling, with a mirrored door, drawers on runners, lighting, and a sliding system that on its own costs as much as half the first wardrobe. Their width in metres is identical.

That is why a price per metre only works in a catalogue, where the wardrobe is always the same one. In custom furniture it means exactly this: somebody averaged their past orders — and yours will not land on that average.

What actually makes the figure: the area of board (width × height, not width alone), the number of parts inside, the doors and the hardware. In order, below.

The five things the figure is made of

Width and height

Area decides, not length. A 2 m wardrobe up to a 2.9 m ceiling is more board than a 2.5 m one stopping at 2.2 m — plus one more level of shelves.

Built in or free-standing

A built-in has no sides, no back and often no top — less board.

  • less board — the saving is on material
  • more labour — walls and ceilings are never true
  • it cannot be moved later

Doors

The number of leaves, and what fills each one: laminated board, mirror, glass, or a combination with a divider. A mirrored leaf costs more than a plain one and weighs more, so it needs a better sliding system.

Interior

A rail and shelves are the baseline. Drawers on runners, mesh baskets, a trouser rack, a pull-down rail, sensor lighting — each is a separate cost, and this is where the figure grows fastest.

Hardware

The dearest part you never see is the sliding door system. It carries the whole weight of the leaf and decides whether the wardrobe still opens the same way in five years. Saving here is felt every day.

How to get your own figure

  1. Give the dimensions roughly

The width of the recess or wall, the ceiling height, and what you plan to store. That is enough to assemble a brief — the calculator on this site does exactly that.

  2. Measuring

We come and measure on finished walls at three heights: recesses are rarely rectangular.

  3. Drawing and quote

We quote from the drawing, once the area, the number of leaves and the interior are visible. If something in it is unnecessary, we take it out before the order, not after the fitting.

The short answers

Why are there no prices on the site?

Because a custom wardrobe has no catalogue price: it depends on your wall, your ceiling height and what goes inside. A figure put up for the sake of having one lasts until the first phone call, after which it has to be revised. We name the figure from the drawing, before the order.

Which is cheaper — built-in or free-standing?

On material, built-in: it has no sides and no back. But if the walls and ceiling are out of true, the labour on filler pieces eats the difference. In a square recess a built-in is almost always the better value.

Sliding doors or hinged?

Sliding doors need no clearance in front of the wardrobe — in a narrow hallway that is often the only option. But the sliding system costs more than hinges, and part of the depth goes to the tracks. If there is room in front, hinged doors are cheaper and give you the whole shelf at once.
