How to choose a custom kitchen
Start with three things, not with the colour of the fronts: where the services run, how much wall length you actually have, and what you do in the kitchen every day. Fronts are chosen last — they barely affect whether the kitchen is comfortable to use.
Where to start when there is no kitchen yet
Three things that are already fixed in place, and moving them is expensive or impossible.
First, the services. The drain fixes the sink: it can be rerouted, but every metre of sloped pipe eats height under the worktop. The gas pipe and the extract duct fix the hob, and the sockets fix the appliances. So kitchen planning always starts with what is already buried in the walls, not with a nice picture.
Second, the real dimensions. A "four-metre wall" turns out to be 3.87 m, and opposite walls diverge by two or three centimetres. Measurements are taken on finished walls, at three heights: near the floor, mid-wall and under the ceiling. A kitchen built to the developer's floor plan arrives with a gap.
Third, how you cook. If you cook daily, the length of worktop between sink and hob matters. If the kitchen is more a meeting place than a workshop, seating wins and the appliances can be narrow. This is a decision you cannot redo later: drawers instead of shelves, or a second tier up to the ceiling, go into the drawing, not onto a finished unit.
Four decisions that affect the price more than colour
Fronts
The difference here is both in price and in durability.
- Laminated board — cheapest, straight shapes, visible edge
- Foil-wrapped MDF — radii and routing, dislikes steam over the hob
- Painted MDF — single colour with no visible edge, the dearest
Worktop
The part that wears out first: you cut on it, put hot pans on it, and by the sink it is permanently wet. Saving here shows within a year — a swollen edge next to the sink.
Hardware
Hinges, runners, lift mechanisms. This is what breaks first and what you see every day: a door that no longer closes flush and a drawer hanging crooked spoil a kitchen more than its colour.
Height
Up to the ceiling or with a top tier. A second tier adds material and labour, but removes the ledge where dust otherwise collects and hides the things you use once a year.
The order we work in
Measuring
We come with a tape and a laser, measure on finished walls, and record services, sockets, the extract duct and every deviation.
Drawing
We draw the kitchen for your room: where the sink goes, where the hob goes, where the drawers are, how tall the top tier is.
Quote
We quote from the drawing — once the running metres, the number of fronts and the hardware are visible. Before the measuring visit any figure would be invented.
Making and fitting
We cut, edge and assemble on site, adjusting to what is actually there: perfectly square walls do not exist.
The short answers
Which is better for fronts — laminated board or MDF?
It depends on the shape and the location. Straight fronts are fine in laminated board, and that is cheaper. MDF is needed where there is routing, a radius or a single colour with no visible edge. We go through the difference on a separate page.
Do I need a designer to order a kitchen?
Not necessarily. If you already have a designer's project we work from it, but we first check the drawing against the room: on paper the walls are always straight. If there is no project, we draw it ourselves after the measuring visit.
What should I prepare for the measuring visit?
The most useful thing is knowing which appliances you are buying (the width of the hob, oven and dishwasher, and the type of extractor) and whether the sink goes under the window. We will measure the rest. If the walls are not plastered yet, say so in advance: we will either measure twice or allow a margin.

Where to start
The simplest way is to call and describe the room briefly. If writing suits you better, leave a request: say what furniture you need and the approximate dimensions, and attach a photo if you wish.
